Workshop I Details

Move To The Waltz
Saturday, November 4th, 2006

A most moving experience! Join Julia Schnebly Black and Sherry Nevins for an absorbing afternoon of movement, dance and Dalcroze. Not to be missed!

Sherry Nevin’s been in love with social dancing for more than 3 decades. She’s had great fun calling contra dances in Seattle since 1980 and traditional square dances since 1977, and gets particular pleasure from teaching couple dances (waltz, polka, and East Coast swing). She enjoys calling and teaching at family events, private parties, weddings, and school functions. She has taught at several dance camps, including Camp Wannadance, Pinewoods, Chehalis, Bear Hug, Let’s Dance, Suttle Lake, and the Gualala and Lady of the Lake Family Weeks. Her informal style and contagious enthusiasm, combined with clear, fast teaching and a varied, lively repertoire ensure a satisfying dance experience for all. For more info or to register, contact Mary Boyum at (253) 759-9928 or Julia Schnebly Black at (206) 527-7034.

Move To Latin Rhythms
Saturday, January 13, 2007

David Braham received his Dalcroze license from Longy. He currently teaches theory and piano and coaches a Latin Jazz ensemble at Arts High in Newark, NJ, a magnet public high school. He’s been a professional jazz musician for over 30 years and has performed and/or recorded with many of the major figures in jazz and Latin jazz.

He’ll not only give us experiences in moving to the complex rhythms of the Latin style, but also show us how to perform these patterns on percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, and even a cowbell! If you have a drum, bring it along!.

Workshop III Details

Percussion on the Move
Saturday, March 10, 2007

Jean F. Wilmouth is a student of Doreen Hall and Marta Sanchez, and holds degrees in percussion and music education from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He served as an adjunct professor in the music education department at Duquesne University for twenty years. Mr. Wilmouth is the founder of the Pittsburgh Golden Triangle Chapter of the AOSA (American Orff-Schulwerk Association), has served on the National Board of the AOSA, is president of Musik Innovations, and is co-founder of the Dalcroze Society of America. He has taught at the IGMF courses in Germany and Austria, ISME conferences in Canada and Austria, numerous national AOSA conferences, National Carl Orff Canada Conference, Orff sessions in Taiwan, National Finnish MUSISOI Conferences, and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.

We will develop percussion techniques that will be practical for the participants to use when returning to their classrooms. Rhythm games, canons and various music activities will be presented throughout the day. Body movement based on the method of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and the Elemental Music of Carl Orff will be the basis of the workshop. We will conclude with materials from the Islands. Wear comfortable clothes for movement. Please bring a recorder and a hand drum.

The Northwest Dalcroze Chapter is pleased to join forces with our Orff colleagues to co-host this workshop. By teaming up, we’re able to bring this workshop to you at a lower cost than other workshops in our 2006-2007 series. This full-day workshop will cost:

Members (pre-registered) $20 Non-members (pre-registered) $50
Members (at door) $30 Non-members (at door) $60
